Currently the largest pipe organ in Singapore with 61 stops and 4,740 pipes, the Esplanade’s organ is fitting for the largest performing arts centre in Singapore. It was built and assembled in 2002 by Klais Orgelbau GmbH & Co. KG (1882 – present) who are based in Bonn, Germany. The project included British architects Sterling and Wilford, Singapore designers CD-architects and the American acoustic consultant, ARTEC (now part of the Arup Group).
The organ has two consoles — one mechanical key desk and a moveable, electric console. The moveable console can be played from different locations on stage. There are also two exchangeable pedal boards — one parallel, the other radiating, both built to BDO standards. A 4,000 electric combinations setter complements the organ, with a sequencer that switches up and down the combinations.
